U12 Hurling league
Ballybricken 2-9
Cappamore 2-2

We travelled to Fedamore to take on Ballybricken Sunday evening. This was to be our toughest challenge to date. Ballybricken were on the scoreboard early with a goal and 2 pts from frees but the lads fought hard to get into the game and were rewarded with a well taken goal from Harry Gleeson towards the end of the first half following good work from Donnacha Gill.

The second half took a similar pattern to the first we got caught for a early goal but it was very closely contested affair for the rest of the game. Cathal Fitzgibbon kept the scoreboard ticking over with couple of points Ballybricken came into the game again but our backs held firm and cleared everything that came their way.
Ogie Ryan had a goal back for us following a fine run from from mid field. Ballybricken finished the game stronger with a number of scores from frees. Great credit to the lads who fought hard and contested everything from start to finish

U12 Hurling league
Cappamore 5-4
Adare 4-3

Adare got off to a flying start with a goal and 2 points in the first five minutes. We weathered the storm however and started to get a foothold in the game. Our backs started to get on top and we were unlucky on a number of occasions not to put some scores on the board. The pressure eventually paid off when Harry Gleeson connected in the air with a Cathal Fitzgibbon delivery to rattle the Adare net in spectacular fashion. James Ryan was on target shortly afterwards to leave the minimum between the sides. Adare struck back with a well taken goal from a free early. We finished the half a bit stronger however with a goal from a free by Cathal Fitzgibbon and long range Ogie Ryan delivery from midfield which deceived the keeper and went all the way to the net.

We had a lively start to the 2nd half with chances going a begging at either end as both defences were on top. Joe Bourke was in great form in goals coming to our rescue on a couple of occasions. We eventually got the score board moving again with well taken points from Ogie and James Ryan. James then took the game by the scruff of the neck with two goals in quick succession to put some daylight between the teams. Adare weren’t finished yet though and they were awarded a close in free which they dispatched to the net. This gave them the confidence to push on but our backs held firm with Ogie Ryan and Tommy Hartnett dominating the half back line and Tommy Dillon on top in midfield. With time almost up Adare pulled a goal back to narrow the gap again but the lads held out to the end to secure the win.

Team; Joe Bourke, Martin Ryan, Jack Carr, Paudie Ryan, Ross Ryan, Ogie Ryan(1-2), Tommy Hartnett,  Daniel Lynch, Tommy Dillon, Declan Ryan, James Ryan (2-2) Dylan Mcgahan, Donnacha Gill, Cathal Fitzgibbon(1-0) Harry Gleeson (1-0) Scott O’Connor,  David Laffan, James O’Kelly, Oisin Mulligan, Cathal Mulligan, Sonny Ryan.

Intermediate Camogie Cup Final
Cappamore 1-7 Bruff 1-10
On Sunday 20th Sept we travelled to a sunny Rathkeale to take on Bruff in the intermediate final. While we had previously beaten Bruff we knew it was going to be a tough match.
We got off to a good start with the opening point coming from Lisa Leonard followed by one from Muireann Creamer. Bruff then followed with three unanswered points. Already it was looking like it was going to be a tight game with both sets of backs on top fighting hard for every ball. Claire Keating made some exceptional saves in goal and was helped with some great clearances from Aislinn O’Malley,Katie Hayes and Lisa English. Just before the HT break we had two more points, one from a well taken free by Molly Hammersley and another point from Muireann Creamer.
We opened the 2nd half scoring with a super run from Muireann who buried the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately our lead was to be short lived as soon after Bruff were awarded a penalty and Niamh Ryan stuck it to the back of the net.
When then had another well taken free from Molly Hammersley to keep us in the game. For the next fifteen minutes it was survival of the fittest. Every breaking ball was a battle. Our fight was lead by captain Fiona Holmes making some great clearances with the help of Laura Fennelly and Aimee O’ Brien. Our mid field of Marie Berkery and Emily Jane Hayes covered miles of ground supporting our back and forwards. Our other forwards too deserve a mention with some great runs and passes from Roisin O’ Malley and Anna Ryan,Orla Lonergan and Elaine Berkery.
Bruff were fortunate to get a few soft frees and again Niamh Ryan was able to take full advantage and put them over the bar. We had our final score from Lisa Leonard as we started to get back on top but unfortunately we ran out of time so the game finished with Bruff winning the game 1-10 to 1-07.
We as a club are very proud of the performance the girls gave, they gave it their all and will be back next year to try again. We thank all our panel of 28 girls for the commitment they have shown this year especially in these strange times with covid-19. We also thank out management team of Conor O’ Malley, Liam Hammersley, Elaine O’ Brien and Niamh Hogan for all their hard work, time and commitment during the year. We look forward to an even better year in 2021.

Match reports:

U16 camogie championship match report, Cappamore V Granagh ballingarry, we decided to play against the wind in the first half, the game was evenly contested in the first quarter with scores slow to come, by the first water break we were 3 pts to 1 down, on resumption we started to get into the game a bit more and by half time we we went to the break 4 pts to 3 up and had hit 3 or 4 wides and had a goal disallowed also, with the wind at our backs for the second half we began to get on top, longer puckouts and the work rate gone way up from the girls all over the field the scores started to come, hitting 2 goals and 3 pts in the first 20 minutes of the second half, to be fair to our opponents they never gave in and had us under a lot of pressure throughout the second half that required some stern defending and good goalkeeping to keep at bay, final score 2:7 to 0:4 win,

After falling behind to an early goal from South Liberties, we took control of the game and lead 3-5 to 0-5 at half time. We stared the second half strong with 2 more quick goals, one from Alex Heney which was a well worked goal. Starting with a puck out from Mal Keogh who went short to Berkery, he found Jack o Donnell who took on the Liberties defence down the wing, checked back inside to the 21 finding Heney who collected the ball and rolled his marker and fired to the top corner of the net. Jake Slattery came on to score 3 great points. The win qualifies us to face Killmallock in the shield final.

Our final competitive hurling match this year saw us take on Killmallock in the shield final in Rathkeale on Saturday morning. The early start of 10am wasn’t a problem for our lads as they came flying out of the traps from the word go. The Killmallock goalkeeper denied us 2 early goals with a couple of fine saves but 2 goals in quick succession from Evan Coleman and points from Heney,Slattery and Shane o Connor had us 2-4 to 0-3 up at half time. Another goal from Alex Heney early in the second half pushed us further ahead. We added a further 6 points in the remainder of the game, some which were good enough to grace any county final.
The score line might suggest that this was an easy game but that could not be further from the truth. The Cappamore lads worked tirelessly from the first whistle to the last, landed some great scores and supported each other throughout the entire game. All 19 players are a credit to Cappamore Gaa club. They trained hard for the last few weeks and fully deserved to win some silverware for their efforts. The panel would like to wish a speedy recovery to Eamonn Ryan who received a nasty leg injury during the game.

Well done to our under 14s camogie team , who had a great win against Na Piarsaigh. Cappamore remained dominant from start to finish . With the aid of a strong breeze in the first half Cappamore went into the break in a comfortable position (2-5 to 0-3). The girls started the second half with two early goals and pushed on from there. Cappamore were in control throughout the game.
Full time score Cappamore 7-6 , Na Piarsaigh 1-6.

Cappamore v Bruff
Wednesday 2nd Sept @ 6.45pm
Another fine performance by the girls on by Wednesday evening now see them in the Intermediate cup semi-final against Croagh/Kilfinny on Sunday afternoon.
The game was tit for tat from the start with some lovely points from Lisa Leonard and Roisin O’ Malley to open Cappamore scoring. Bruff had two goals scored before half time but Cappamore kept themselves in the game with points from Molly Hammersley, Elaine Berkery and Muireann Creamer.
The first score in the second half came from Bruff but was closely followed by two fine pints from Muireann Creamer and Molly Hammersley. Then followed a cracking goal from Orla Lonergan. Bruff were not ready to give up and scored three points in a row which left the scoring Cappamore 1-09 Bruff 2-07 at the final water break. There must have been something in the water as Cappamore came out all guns blazing. The scoring spree started with a point and a fantastic goal from Muireann Creamer. Lisa Leonard and our keeper Claire Keating with a point each. Our defence were now in full control and Muireann Creamer rounded off a great overall team performance with another three points.

Cois Laoi Gaels 1-3
Cappamore 6-6

We travelled to Martinstown to take on Cois Laoi Gaels Sunday morning. We were slow to start and found ourselves a goal and a point behind early on. James Ryan hit back with a well taken goal just before the water break. We got stuck into the game better after the water break. We had some fine clearances from Ogie Ryan and Jack Carr and our midfield were starting to get on top. We were rewarded for the pressure when  Scott O’ Connor managed to force the ball over the line following a goal mouth scramble.
We were fast off the mark in the second half with 2 points from Tommy Dillon and goal from Cathal Fitzgibbon following good work by Dylan Mcgahan and Declan Ryan. Harry Gleeson then got in on the act with well taken goals either side of a James Ryan point. Cois Laoi Gaels then hit back with 2 points after the water break but we responded quickly with a another goal from Cathal Fitzgibbon following a good play by Daniel Lynch. We finished the game strongly with further points from James Ryan and Cathal Fitzgibbon to round off a good overall performance.

Our Premier Intermediate Hurling team played their final Championship game in this years changed format last Saturday in Claughaun. Their opponents were Mungret St. Pauls. The pressure was really on Cappamore going this final game with a reduced panel due to a number injuries. They also needed to get a positive result to remain Premier Intermediate next year. With a number of changes, all the team responded positively and produced a big performance on the day. We began with strong physicality and good attacking play and were well in contention at the first water break. We were a point up at half time with all players doing well.  Cappamore were still playing very well up to the second water break and were ahead going into the last quarter. Mungret put on serious pressure in the final few minutes and both teams  finished all square.
Cappamore 3.12
Mungret 1.18
This result guaranteed Cappamore retained their Premium Intermediate  status next year.

A goal from play from M Walsh and 0.1 from J O Sullivan put us 1.4 to 0.3 at half time. Alot of decisions that didnt go our way, didnt stop the lads from battling hard. Unfortunately our goalie took a hit and was substituted by E Coleman. Wishing Jamie a speedy recovery. Scores from M Ryan, M Walsh and two brilliant saves from E Coleman, gave us a final score of 2.6 to 1.5.

Cappamore GAA Results and Reports

U21 county quarter final Cappamore 4-13 Blackrock 3-16 (aet)

Cappamore win 3-2 in a penalty shoot out

In a pulsating match goalie Liam O’ Donnell proved to be the hero as he scored one and saved three penalties in the penalty shootout that saw Cappamore qualify for the U 21A county semi-final.

Played in Hospital in awful conditions Blackrock got the first score of the game, a long range point. Cappamore playing well responded with points from Donal O’ Mahoney and Ronan Hanley. O’ Mahoney added a point from a free to extend the lead but a goal from Blackrock’s Colm O’ Keeffe saw Blackrock edge back in front. Pointed frees from Blackrock’s Heffernan and O’ Keeffe along with two from Hanley and a free from O’ Mahoney had Blackrock a goal ahead after 20 mins. Another goal from O’ Keeffe had Blackrock now ahead by 2 goals. Cappamore fought back hard and reduced the deficit to 2 thanks to 4 unanswered points from O’ Mahoney (2), Hanley and full forward Daniel Thompson but 2 late points from Blackrock had them leading 2-7 to 0-9 at half time.

The introduction of Kevin Doyle early in the second half was decisive, scoring 2 goals that brought Cappamore right back into the game. The game was finely balanced, Blackrock were accurate from play and placed balls but O’ Mahoney with 2 frees and another from Thompson added points for Cappamore. A late goal from Ronan Hanley got Cappamore into the lead but a free from Blackrock’s Daithi Heffernan deep into injury time sent the match to extra time.

In extra time with conditions worsening and light fading scores were hard to come by. Both teams were giving it their all, Sean Whelan in defence and PJ Hogan in attack excelled for Cappamore. A third goal from super sub Doyle and a point from Jason Fitzgibbon had Cappamore 4 points up at half time. Blackrock fought back and a late penalty scored by Heffernan followed by a pointed free saw the match level again and sent it to a shootout.

To be fair it was a game that neither team deserved to lose but in these COVID 19 times there had to be a winner this evening. Goals in the shootout from Liam O’ Donnell, Donal O’ Mahoney and Jason Fitzgibbon along with the saves from O’ Donnell saw Cappamore through.

It was a great team effort where all the players played well in a difficult night for hurling.

U21 Hurling Hurling Championship 22nd July 2020

Cappamore 6-15  Killacolla 0-16

In the final group game of the U 21A championship in what was a must win game, Cappamore gave a great display to overpower a strong Killacolla team played on the new pitch in Cappamore.  Two early goals from Jason Fitzgibbon and Ronan Hanley set Cappamore on the way in what was a powerful first half display. The defence put in a super display not allowing the Killacolla forwards time or space. With Donal O’ Mahoney contributing 5 points along with points from Jack Leonard, Ronan Hanley and Daniel Thompson put Cappamore into a comfortable lead. Further goals from Hanley and O Mahoney gave Cappamore a commanding 4-8 to 0-6 lead at half time.

To be fair to Killacolla they never gave up and scored 10 points in the second half but goals in the second half from Hanley and Fitzgibbon along with the accuracy of O’ Mahoney made sure the result was never in doubt.  The final result ensured that Cappamore qualified for the county quarter final which is scheduled for this Wednesday in Hospital against BlackRock at 7PM. Best of luck to players and management.

Croagh/Kilfenny/Rathkeale 2-7  vs 0-14 Cappamore
Venue: Cappamore GAA Grounds
Cappamore U21s played a Croagh/Kilfenny/Rathkeale amalgamation (CKR) in round 2 of the U21 A championship. CKR started the better with two goals in the first quarter, which left Cappamore trailing 2-2 to 0-2 after twenty minutes. The Cappamore response came with scores coming in the ten minutes before half time. We finished the half with a score of CKR 2-04 to Cappamore 0-06. A margin of 4 points. The second half was a slow but consistent fight back, with some excellent work in the backs, only conceding three points in the second half. CKR relayed heavily in fouling the Cappamore attack, all through the second half, which was duly punished by Donal O’Mahoney at every opportunity. Cappamore took the lead in the closing minutes and held out for a one-point win, Croagh/Kilfenny/Rathkeale 2-07 to Cappamore 0-14.Team: 1 Liam ODonnell, 2 Conor Fitzgibbon, 3 Paul Campbell, 4 Gearoid Hogan, 5 Tadgh Ryan, 6 Jack Sheehan, 7 Gearoid Mulcahy, 8 Jason Fitzgibbon, 9 Darragh Hanly, 10 Donal OMahoney , 11 Ronan Hanly, 12 Jack Leonard, 13 Jamie McCarthy, 14 Kevin Doyle, 15 PJ Hogan, Subs Sean Whelan for Gearoid Mulcahy on 30mins. We have a bye in round 3 next weekend.
