All-Ireland Junior B hurling semi-final
CAPPAMORE (Limerick) 0-14 BALLINDEREEN (Galway) 1-10
Munster Champions Cappamore qualified for the All-Ireland junior B hurling final in Killeedy to be played on 9th February after a long battle in testing elements against the Galway champions Ballindereen. It was indeed a game of two halves as Cappamore took full advantage of the wind at their backs during the first half.
Cappamore built up a seven-point lead by the break on the back of Liam Creamer’s free-taking and defence inspired by centre-back Jack Sheehan, soaking up whatever was thrown at them.
The wind and rain picked up after half-time but Cappamore looked to be comfortable and in control until Ballindereen sub Seán Corcoran struck the game’s only goal at sixty minutes. Cappamore however kept their nerve and never lost their composure even when Ballindereen came within sight of the winning post. Man of the match Kevin Doyle was in great form in defence as was Paddy Ryan Luke.
Nearing the end of normal time substitute Matthew Ryan scored an inspirational point from play when Cappamore were finding scores hard to come by.
SCORERS, CAPPAMORE: Liam Creamer 0-8 (8 frees), Jack Walsh 0-2, Donal O’Mahoney, Jack Sheehan, Conor O’Brien, Matthew Ryan 0-1 each;
CAPPAMORE: Shane Slattery; Conor Fitzgibbon, Séamus Lane, Kevin Doyle; Mark Tracey, Jack Sheehan, Paddy Ryan; Kevin Ryan, Conor O’Brien; Jack Walsh, Anthony Foley, Liam Creamer; Jamie McCarthy, Éamonn Moloney, Donal O’Mahoney. SUBS: Kieran Hickey for Éamonn Moloney (51 minutes), Matthew Ryan for Jamie McCarthy (56 minutes), Darragh O’Dwyer for Anthony Foley (58 minutes), Liam Walsh for Kevin Ryan (injured, 60 minutes).
AGM
The club AGM was held last weekend with officers and managers assigned for the year ahead. The big news to come out of the meeting was the amalgamation of our GAA and Camogie clubs. This forward thinking can only be a good thing for the club going forward with less administration and sends out a positive note for both codes.
Munster Junior B Hurling Cup Thank you to the victorious players and management who toured the three primary schools in the parish with the recently won Munster Junior B Hurling Cup.
